Why are they controversial?
What a great idea to bring awareness !! Gives the statues a perk during the winter months and draws your eye to them !!
These statues were installed a couple of years ago, and some people have had a very strong reaction to them. Writing letters to the editor of the newspaper, etc. For a small town we have LOTS of art downtown, it's great!
Those rusting, staining-the-sidewalk "statues" are hideous, and certainly not art. A dog could take a poop on the sidewalk and it would be more artistic.
